Cash Problems?

Or just logistics issues?
Several Maine banks and credit unions are facing challenges in obtaining enough cash for their customers amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The issues are reportedly due to logistical challenges and disruptions in the supply chain.

As a result, some institutions have had to limit the amount of cash customers can withdraw, and in some cases, customers have had difficulty accessing cash at ATMs.

The Federal Reserve has acknowledged these challenges and is working to address the issue by providing additional cash supplies to banks and credit unions in need.

Memorial Day Weekend on Big Brook

Brookies, Black Flies & Remembering What Matters

Joke Of The Day

Why did the scarecrow win an award in Houlton, Maine 04730?

Because he was outstanding in his field!

Memorial Day Weekend on Big Brook

Brookies, Black Flies & Remembering What Matters

Memorial Day weekend in Northern Maine always feels like the unofficial start of summer.

The camp roads start waking up.
The grills come out.
ATVs start rolling again.

People finally crack open the windows after another long County winter.

And for some of us, it means heading for cold water and brook trout.

Mike and I spent part of the holiday weekend fishing Big Brook with the dogs, trying to catch a few brookies while pretending we weren’t being slowly carried away by black flies and mosquitoes.

Bad plan.

The bugs were absolutely ruthless this year.

Not just annoying either — aggressive. The kind of black flies that circle your head like they’ve got unpaid bills to collect. The mosquitoes weren’t much better. Mike looked like he was fighting invisible ninjas half the afternoon trying to tie knots and swat bugs at the same time.

The little brook trout were biting decent enough to keep us entertained, but the big one?

Well… the dogs took care of that situation.

Right as we spotted a nice trout moving near the deeper bend, both dogs exploded into the woods chasing something through the brush like they were auditioning for a wildlife documentary.

Fish gone.

Water blown up.

Mike laughing.

Me questioning life choices.

Typical Northern Maine fishing trip.

Still though… standing there in the brook with cold water around your boots, hearing the trees moving in the breeze and watching the sunlight hit the water — you remember pretty quickly why people love this place so much.

Especially on Memorial Day weekend.

Because up here, holidays still feel connected to the outdoors.
Family.

Quiet roads.

Campfires.

Fishing poles in the back of the truck.

Neighbors helping neighbors.

Kids getting muddy.

People slowing down long enough to breathe again.

And maybe that’s part of what Memorial Day should remind us of too.

Not just the sacrifice that built this country — though that matters deeply — but also what people sacrificed for:
places like this.
Simple freedoms.
Small-town life.

The ability to spend a peaceful afternoon standing beside a cold brook in Northern Maine with friends, dogs, and absolutely zero cell service.

Even if the black flies are trying to drain every ounce of blood from your body.

By the end of the day:

  • the dogs were exhausted,
  • Mike looked like he lost a boxing match with mosquitoes,
  • and I’m pretty sure the fish were laughing at us from under the rocks.

But honestly?

Still can’t beat the views.

And after another long Maine winter, there’s nowhere else we’d rather be.
